攸县,古名攸、攸舆,以攸水流贯全境而得名。史载自汉高祖五年(公元前202年)置县后,历有攸县、攸舆侯国、攸水县、新兴、安乐、攸县等称谓。置县后,县治初驻吴楚边界攸舆侯封侯山附近,约在北朝陈辛已年(561),始迁攸江之上,五代后梁间(907~935),迁今攸县城关镇(梅城镇)。攸水,源自楚、吴边界,今攸县鸾山镇老漕村(原漕泊乡)松林庵自然村(原松林村),%Youxian, the Ancient Name You & Youyu, get names from the Youshui river, which flow through the county. According to historical book, in the fifth year of the Han Dynasty ( 202 BC ) , such names as Youxian, Youyuhou, Youshui, Xinxin, Anle and Youxian are titled after establishment of county government. At first, the county government lies in Wu Chu boundary and nearby the Houfeng Hill in approximately 561, then, it moved to the upper reaches of the You River, and next moved to this town Youxian ( town ) after five generations of girder ( 907 - 935 ). You shui River, comes from Chu, Wu border, now is Youxian Luanshan, village (the old Cao- po village ) Songlingan natural village (the old Songling village ).
