湖州乌程马要沈宗骞，中国清中叶重要书画家、画论家，当下详其画及论，乏其生平。据对明清《马要沈氏谱》、相关方志、诗词汇编及明清笔记等史料归纳梳理可知：他属湖州马要沈氏西宅支第十五代，明代名臣大藏书家沈节甫长子沈淙后裔。马要沈氏是明清乌程重要大官宦书香世家，族人科举兴盛，著录丰富，虽屡遭大案，至乾隆朝仍兴盛。他生于公元1717年，长寿，晚岁居乡里廿三湾听竹堂。乾隆朝众名公咸仰慕其书画，为乡里所崇。遍游吴越，交友广泛，弟子出众，启蒙师极有可能为其堂叔（沈）吕渭或吕时敏。书法宗二王，绘画及画论集明以降之大成。%Shen Zongqian of Ma Yao, Huzhou ( known as Wu Cheng in Qin Dynasty) was an important calligrapher,painter and art critic in the middle of Qing Dynasty .At present, much is known about his paintings and art criticism, but little a-bout his life.According to the historical records available, such as the Genealogy of the Family of Shen in Ming and Qing Dynasties, local chronicles, selections of poems and short sketches compiled of the two said dynasties, he belonged to the fifteenth generation of the west-chamber branch of the family of Shen in Ma Yao, Huzhou, a descendant of ShenCong, eld-est son of Shen Jiefu who was a distinguished Ming official and an avid book collector.The family of Shen of Ma Yao boas-ted a long line of distinguished officials and revered scholars.Many people of the family succeeded in the imperial exams and wrote a great many books.Despite frequent involvement in major criminal cases, the family maintained its prosperity till Emperor Qianlong′s time.He was born in 1717 and lived a long life.In later years, he lived in the comfort of his home vil-lage, contentedly listening to the bamboos.In the age when Qianlong was on the throne, his paintings were admired by dig-nitaries far and wide and he was the pride of his hometown.Earlier, he had traveled to Wu and Yue ( Jiangsu and Zhejiang at present) and made many friends.Many of his disciples also grew famous.His first teachers may well have been his uncle Lv Wei and his stepfather Lv Shimin.In calligraphy he took the two Wangs as his models and his paintings and art criticism epitomized what was the best in these two fields of endeavor.
