This paper describes a new solar lighting system。The system uses a new GPS-based solar tracking control module. A global positioning system(GPS) is used to acquire latitude, longitude and the current time of the observation point. Single chip microcomputer Atmega168 is used to calculate the elevation angle and azimuth of the sun at this time, and to control the stepper motor rotating pan-tilt. Using the angular position detectoras a calibration device, the control system achieves accurate tracking of the sun, and is calibrated to achieve a 0.5° accuracy.
