A recent study identified a secreted protein, betatrophin, could potently and significantly improve the ability of beta cell proliferation, and can significantly improve the sugar tolerance ability. The discovery of betatrophin provided a new type of therapy for the treatment of diabetes. The previous studies mainly focused on its features and functions as well as the proliferation of the pancreatic beta cells. In this article, the research progress of betatrophin and diabetes were summarized.
