The basic compositions of various additives for gun black plating and their application methods were introduced. The variation of color from gray to dark for Sn-Ni alloy and Ni-free Sn-Co alloy coatings prepared under different operation conditions and the corresponding adjustment method were discussed. A method for evaluating the quality of potassium pyrophosphate, used as primary complexing agent and conducting salt, was described.
