A Contrastive Analysis of the Three English Versions of the Moonlight over the Lotus Pond from the perspective of Aesthetic Effect in Image

Translation and aesthetic are invariably closely related topics since the ancient time.Liu Miqing said, " aesthetic is a task that ' can't steer away' in the Chinese translation theory,just like our translation can't steer away from Chinese."(2005) In the Chinese literature,Moonlight over the Lotus Pond is like a pearl in the elaborate works.This thesis is to make a comparison of the three English translations of Moonlight over the Lotus Pond from the perspective of aesthetic translation.It grasps the essence of mechanisms of translation on the basis of modern aesthetic principles.Also,there will be a brief analysis of the techniques in the aesthetic translation,i.e.the aesthetic effect in phonology and rhythm,artistic conception,creative translation,parallelism and conciseness.In this thesis the translations from Zhu Chunshen,Wang Jiaosheng,Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang are chosen to analyze the techniques in translating prose,in recreating the aesthetic effect,by which a conclusion about the factors of context,artistic conception and technique of writing is made.
