Since its initiation in 1955, the Kaogu has been published in 400 issues. In the past more than 40 years, it won extensive commendation in academic circles both in China and abroad. At home, it has become an important academic forum reflecting and representing the development level of Chinese archaeology; in the world, it has been made a window of significant Sino-foreign archaeological exchanges. In the new century, the Kaogu should take "innovation" as a principle of developing archaeology, stress basic studies of the discipline, insist on the strategy of creating excellent works and pay great attention to methodological and theoritical construction, so as to forge ahead in the forefront of the era, reach to a new level, publish more achievements and bring up more talented people. Let archaeology radiate still more splendid academic light in the garden of sciences.
