Illinois community college presidents' perspective of the all-comprehensive community college mission.

American community colleges are complex institutions facing complex challenges. Enormous demands are being placed on the community college that impacts the focus of the community college mission. Debate whether the mission should be vertical, horizontal, or all-comprehensive is constant. As the educational institution known as the community college is identified to be an all-comprehensive entity, responsible for serving all individuals, the community college's mission changes to encompass everyone's needs. Community college presidents' perspectives of the community college mission and the community college as an educational institution impact the decisions made during strategic planning. The community college president's role is to be knowledgeable on the existing focus of the mission while being responsive to the current challenges to the mission of the community colleges. This study investigated perspectives of community college presidents in the Illinois Community College System on the all-comprehensive community college mission.
