摘要

The results of an analytical study on the response of single angle flexural members are reported. The finite element analysis method is the primary vehicle for this investigation. Finite element "experiments" are conducted on equal leg angles made from high strength carbon steel with an assumed yield stress of 50 ksi. Verification of the nonlinear finite element analysis techniques are performed by modeling physical tests performed in the laboratory. The finite element "experimental" results compared well with the physical test results.; These same modeling techniques are used to study compactness requirements, bracing requirements, and nominal moment capacities of single angle beams subjected to a constant moment loading. The results of the study are used to make design recommendations.
