Computers have been identified as a necessary tool in the world of work. Research on how to implement computers into the school and curriculum has been investigated for several decades. The combination of writing and technology takes into consideration the recursive nature of writing used with the technology that allowed the writer to participate in the recursive process.;The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of pre-service teachers in regard to the utilization of computer technology with writing done by second graders. Student teachers provided data by expressing their perceptions before they began a practicum with second-grade children, by documenting their perceptions during the practicum, and by reflecting on their perceptions after participation in the practicum experience. Data collection included surveys, interviews, journals, evaluations, and observations.;Pre-service teachers were asked to identify growth in children's writing when writing with the use of a computer. Data analysis revealed factors that pre-service teachers perceived as the second-graders' ability to use computers as they write and how the computer influences the children's writing. Student teachers were asked to explain what influenced their perceptions concerning the use of computer technology in second-grade writing classrooms.;Teachers of pre-service teachers can use the information provided in this study to facilitate their roles in planning, implementing, and utilizing computer technology in a writing program. Addressed in the study is the need for education faculty to model technology to future teachers and the importance of placing pre-service teachers in practicums where they can experience working with students utilizing technology. Practicums can provide future teachers with knowledge regarding the application of the writing process. Alternative assessment and understanding of elementary students' capabilities are also outcomes of a practicum that contributes to reflective practice.
