The problem of this study was to examine the relationship between the curricular standards of the Accrediting Commission in Education for Health Services Administration, and the perceptions of health care administrator program providers as to the appropriateness of these standards based upon such factors as occupational needs, trends, traditions, critical considerations and organizational constraints. Program providers were asked to respond to some of the major literary criticisms pertaining to graduate health care administration education in the United States, as well as issues related to curriculum accreditation standards. Respondents were also asked to make additional comments with respect to the appropriateness of their curriculum in accommodating contemporary administrative need in the health care industry.;The population for this study consisted of the program providers of the 65 accredited graduate health care administration education programs dispersed geographically throughout the United States. The common element of this sample was program accreditation. Program providers were mailed a 12 item survey accompanied by return mail procedures.;Responses were tabulated, analyzed, and reported using numerical tabulation (frequencies and percentages) and content analysis. The collection of data as described and tables were used to display the responses. From the analysis of the results, conclusions regarding the relationship of accreditation standards and contemporary health care administrative practices were disclosed. Based upon these disclosures, recommendations for further study were offered.
