Computer assisted instruction (CAI) has been the focus in educational research for the past ten years, however, in the realm of vocational education, the use of CAI has not been examined. The effects of CAI and traditional instruction were compared in this study to determine if there was a difference in effectiveness of the two instructional approaches. Six students participated in the training program and were employed at community based job sites. The results suggest that the CAI training program was superior to the traditional program. The CAI group outperformed the traditional group in most areas investigated. The findings are congruent with similar CAI research and contribute to the theory that CAI is an effective tool for instruction.
