The author presents a brief overview of interactive music, emphasizing several paradigms that have developed in response to the unique concerns of the genre. This discussion serves to contextualize an analysis of two of his recent works: Five Songs, for flute and interactive electronics; and Convergences, for alto flute, violin, piano, and interactive electronics.
