“Grammar Lessons” is a work of literary nonfiction. Comprised of twelve distinct yet interlocking essays, this collection offers individual meditations on language and experience as well as collective insight into the craft of personal storytelling. A hybrid between literary essays and memoir, “Grammar Lessons” experiments with form by offering a range of narrative techniques, from chronological tales to disjunctive and lyric essays. Topics include adolescent girlhood, definitions of family, and the changes in perspective that come with learning a second language as an adult.
