Prediction of attitude change following an aviation maintenance resource management training program.

The Maintenance Resource Management (MRM) training program is an initiative within the aviation industry to reduce maintenance error through attention to communication processes and individual human factors. Analyses of MRM training program evaluation data collected from a large U.S. airline using the Maintenance Resource Management Technical Operations Questionnaire (a measure of attitudes and behavioral intentions pertaining to the training) was undertaken to assess MRM program outcomes.; Trainee experience data were also collected in conjunction with the MRM/TOQ, allowing for the association between these sets of measures to be examined. The predictive relationships between participant training experience (e.g., time with company, job role) on pre-post attitude changes regarding trust, communication and awareness were not significant (p > .05). However, ancillary analyses revealed that other variables such as job role and intention to change were able to predict post-training changes in attitude, as well as baseline (pre-training) attitudes. These findings may be useful in the modification of MRM curriculum and implementation to maximize impact. Implications for program development and implementation are discussed.
