The purpose of this study was to describe and examine students' expectations, perceptions and satisfaction with the physical education courses at the Taipei Municipal Teachers' College in Taipei, Taiwan. The instrument used for gathering the data consisted of a four-part questionnaire: background characteristics, Student Need Scale (S.N.S.), Teacher Instruction Scale (T.I.S.), and Facility Scale (F.S.). To assess the student need for taking physical education, a 35-item Student Need Scale (S.N.S.) was developed. The 19-item Teacher Instruction Scale (T.I.S.) and the 10-item Facility Scale (F.S.) were also developed.; Descriptive statistics: frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations, were used to report the findings of the demographic data. In addition to descriptive statistics, several statistical procedures were used in this study to examine four hypotheses. The T-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe post-hoc test were used to determine if significant relationships existed among students' need, teachers' instruction and facility (Hypotheses 1 and 3). Cluster analysis was performed to divide students who took physical education into several learner types based on student need profiles across the S.N.S. factors.
