Ellin's integral urbanism and Wilber's integral theory.

The conversation about environmental issues has increasingly turned its focus onto the built environment. Some suggest that physical improvements to our cities and buildings could provide the most effective strategy for handling issues such as climate change and "peak oil" However, changing our built landscape merely addresses the symptoms of our problems and fails to address the root cause -- our own intellectual crisis.;One thinker who has developed a useful perspective for comprehending these challenges is Ken Wilber. His Integral Theory provides a 'theory of everything" that situates humanity and our problems into a wider conception of intellectual evolution. Nan Ellin's Integral Urbanism claims to link urban design within this system. Given the enormous potential of Wilber's work and the possibility of applying it to the increasingly venerated built environment it is important to evaluate this claim. This paper demonstrates that her work is generally aligned with Integral Theory.
