It was expected that children with serious emotional disturbance will demonstrate an ability to regulate their emotion regulation with an increase in self-adjustment inn a child-caregiver context. This study emphasizes the importance of a caregiver's role in the child development in a child's emotion regulation process. Central to the success in gaining emotion regulation was the role of clinical professionals who worked with the children. Two different set of questionnaires, one measuring emotion regulation and the other self-control, were compared. This could be conceptualized as a link between emotion regulation abilities and self-adjustment. This study took into account children's emotional arousal, and their ability to reduce, enhance and maintain emotion regulation when faced with stress. Out of seven, six S ED children displayed increase in emotion regulation over time. Children with serious emotional disturbance demonstrated emotion regulation as they experienced long term interaction with professionals in an intensive clinical environment. In addition, a child's emotion regulation score was highly related to his self-control ability.
