Integrated stormwater management for lakeside villages: A study of Portland, Ontario.

摘要

The problem of surface water quality degradation due to uncontrolled stormwater runoff in lakeside villages was confirmed by the findings from a stormwater runoff sampling program in the Village of Portland (a typical lakeside village in Ontario on the Rideau system), where untreated runoff was identified as the source of contaminants in the Rideau Lakes. The research described in this thesis includes a preliminary assessment for the design of a comprehensive stormwater management plan for Portland determination of the potential for lot-level stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs), in particular Rear Yard Ponding (RYP). The quantitative effectiveness and hydrologic benefits of RYP were assessed.{09}A field monitoring program consisting of lysimeter sampling and tracer experiment was conducted to investigate the potential of septic effluent flushing by the retained stormwater runoff in RYP at a typical lot in the main area of Portland.
