The purpose of this retrospective repeated measures quantitative study was to examine the impact of simulation on NCLEX-RN pass rates. A list of Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) programs was obtained from the NCSBN and an electronic link to a simulation questionnaire was sent to the director of each of the programs, resulting in 96 eligible participants. The study examined the NCLEX-RN pass rates for the two years before and the two years following the addition of simulation. Results of the study indicated an increase of 3.69% in NCLEX-RN pass rates after the implementation of simulation, a difference at the P <0.0001 level of significance. The results of this study provide validation for the use of simulation as an effective pedagogical tool as nursing education is being challenged to discover new ways to help students learn. While simulation will never replace actual hands-on patient care, it can provide learning opportunities students may not otherwise experience, and it may contribute to increased NCLEX-RN pass rates.
