Literature yields a disappointing collection of compilations for the surfactant enhanced remediation field. Several compilations of laboratory experiments are available, however, most provide limited information. The information that is available has not been presented in a way that it can be useful in field applications. In this work a thorough compilation of literature information was collected in a decision tree format. This will allow workers in the remediation field to quickly determine which surfactant is best to employ at a contaminated site. From the information that is given in literature, a fairly comprehensive instrument can be constructed. It is thought that the experiments carried out in a laboratory setting provide a good representation of how the surfactants will behave in the field. However, with limited results from field demonstrations, it is proposed that a series of experiments be done to compare the results of laboratory experiments to field demonstration.
