This project involved executive, existing, and emerging leaders and examined the role for mentorship to support leadership development and the learning culture within Westminster Savings Credit Union (WSCU). In anticipation of a War for Talent, the organization has taken a proactive and strategic approach to attracting, retaining, developing, and transitioning leaders. The WSCU Employee Development Strategic Plan advocates mentorship as a way of developing future leaders. This project explored the linkages between mentoring, learning organizations, and the transfer of leadership knowledge and wisdom. How mentors acquire knowledge and wisdom and how they positively influence other leaders to engage, build and maintain learning and leadership capacity was explored. The study findings confirmed that mentoring enhances learning and the development and transition of leaders. The recommendations to assess mentoring readiness within the organization and build on effective mentoring practices will enable WSCU to address the challenges associated with the projected talent shortage.
