在“全球化厨房”中协商英国身份：从空间叙事的视角解读莫妮卡·阿里的小说《厨房》

摘要

莫妮卡·阿里是具有影响力的孟加拉裔英国作家。她的第三部小说《厨房》备受关注并赢得众多好评。基于小说后撒切尔式新自由主义和多文化伦敦的语境，该作品聚焦由当代全球化资本以及日渐增长的移民劳工人数所引起的英国身份转变的主题。　　除开绪言和结论，此研究可以分为三大章节。第一章节旨在观察皇家酒店和家乡兰开夏郡这两大实体空间意象，将其阐释为市场时代英国阶级社会的微观反映。第二章节着手于移民劳工成员对于自身的自由意志和兴趣的最大化掌控，由此展示他们在压抑的工作环境中开创第三世界的过程。与此同时，本章还结合主人公盖布里尔在洋葱农田里的移工经历，以及他事后对移民身份和地位的改观，来解释来自英国本土的主人公如何在全球化伦敦的环境中重述杂糅和包容的英国身份。第三章则分析了主厨即主人公的心理变化轨迹和精神困境，由此来揭露传统的排斥性和固定性英国身份观的不可靠特征，并借助以上分析来表明转变传统英国身份理念，使其变为更加开阔而动态的理念的必要性。　　借助空间叙事理论的批评工具，本文不仅揭示了阿里对处于当代英国伦敦环境下压迫性社会结构的批判，同时还探讨了小说如何对潜藏于传统英国身份观中的危机进行披露，以及如何呼吁英国本土民众在全球化情境中采用与以往不同的观点来看待移民群众。
