中美大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要部分的体裁分析

摘要

在过去的几十年里,体裁分析方面的研究和讨论十分活跃。最近,学术论文摘要语篇引起了体裁分析学者的极大关注。Martin(2003)指出学术论文摘要不仅准确的描述科学研究,而且帮助读者迅速了解论文的主要内容、节省时间,其重要性不可忽视。然而,对于学术论文摘要语篇的研究并不多见(Swales,2001)。
　　 本文作者将运用ESP体裁分析理论深入探讨中美大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要部分在结构特征和语言风格方面的异同并探究造成差异的原因。
　　 本项研究的语料是随机抽取的66篇2005-2009年中美大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要语篇。其中33篇选自中国学位论文全文数据库,构成中国大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要语料库(CC);另外33篇选自ProQuest学位论文全文数据库,构成美国大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要语料库(USC)。
　　 参照Swales(2001)的IMRD(引言-方法-结果-讨论)模式并利用其语步-步骤分析模式,作者对摘要语篇的宏观结构进行了分析,研究结果如下:中国大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要由五个稳定语步构成,即“阐述研究领域的重要性”、“介绍本研究”、“描述研究方法”、“阐述研究结果”、“讨论研究结果”。其中第一个语步“阐述研究领域的重要性”为新出现的语步,偏离了Swales的IMRD模式。相比之下,在对美国大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要的宏观语篇结构分析中只发现了四个稳定语步,即“介绍本研究”、“描述研究方法”、“阐述研究结果”、“讨论研究结果”,这与Swales的IMRD模式吻合。
　　 对于硕士论文摘要语篇的语言特征,分析结果如下:(1)在中国大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要语篇中,一般现在时出现最频繁,而在美国大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要语篇中,一般现在时与一般过去时出现最频繁且使用比例相当;中美大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要语篇时态选择的最大差异出现在“描述研究方法”和“阐述研究结果”两个语步。在这两个语步中,中国大学的硕士生倾向于使用一般现在时而美国大学的硕士生倾向于使用一般过去时。(2)中美大学的英语语言学专业硕士生在语态选择方面有极高的相似性,都倾向于使用主动语态。在“描述研究方法”语步中,主动语态和被动语态使用比例相当,而在其他的语步,他们都倾向于使用主动语态。(3)中美大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要中很少使用第一人称。在中国大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要语料库中未发现第一人称单数的出现,而在美国大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要语料库中未发现第一人称复数的出现。(4)在中美大学英语语言学专业硕士论文摘要中,简单句和复合句出现频率最高,并列句和并列复合句出现频率较低。
　　 作者希望本研究能够进一步丰富硕士论文摘要语篇的研究,为以后跨文化比较研究提供新的视角,并为英语教师和硕士生提供一些有益的启示,帮助硕士生有效地撰写学术论文摘要。
