Factors Affecting the Development of Commercial Banks in Sub-Saharan Africa

撒哈拉以南非洲在近年来经济取得了快速发展，其中一个重要的原因是金融的发展。商业银行作为传统金融的重要组成部分，有效地支持了当地经济增长。与世界其他地区相比，撒哈拉以南非洲地区的银行利润相对较高，发展也更为迅速。因此，研究撒哈拉以南非洲所有国家商业银行发展的影响因素具有很强的现实意义。
　　本文实证检验了撒哈拉以南非洲所有国家商业银行发展的影响。通过选择撒哈拉以南非洲所有国家2003-2015年数据作为样本，构建起非平衡面板数据模型，并运用混合OLS回归、固定效应和随机效应方法进行参数估计。实证检验选取的主要解释变量包括经济增长、人口总量以及货币供应量（即流动性）。此外，为了反映非洲地区文化因素对商业银行发展的影响，选取是否使用英语作为虚拟变量来进行分析。实证结果显示，经济增长和人口显著促进了该地区商业银行的发展，而且使用英语作为官方语言的国家比没有使用英语的国家商业银行发展水平约高27％。但是，流动性并没有显著促进商业银行的发展。最后本文对上述结果进行了检验，发现人口与经济增长高度相关，为了反映各自对商业银行发展的影响，故而分别置入不同模型中进行回归;Hausman检验结果表明固定效应更为合适。上述结论对于发展非洲商业银行具有重要的政策内涵，即建议商业银行应该把重点放在与客户联系的共同语言上。与此同时，商业银行不应该只关注内部政策，而应该考虑宏观经济环境来制定战略以促进其发展。
