Solutions using spreadsheets and simulation software are presented and discussed as illustrations in undergraduate water resources engineering curricula. Students use the spreadsheet solutions to reinforce fundamental engineering principles through individual development of applications. Simulation software is utilized to facilitate the study of realistic engineering systems while exposing students to a more professional working environment. Assessment of the technology that is embedded within the simulation software and the introduction of computer modeling skills enhance the students’ understanding of complex water resource systems while developing aptitude in an emerging technology field.
