The Lake Hodges to Olivenhain Tunnel Pipeline (LHOP) Project is part of a 40 megawatt pumpedrnstorage project, which is a component of the San Diego Water Authority’s Emergency Storage Project.rnThe project, located in the arid southwest of USA and earthquake country, is a design-buildrnengineering and construction effort for a pressure tunnel extending from the Olivenhain DamrnReservoir to Lake Hodges. The project takes economic advantage of two reservoirs to generaternelectricity during peak energy demands as well as provide a reliable source of water during periods ofrndrought or a major earthquake event. The project represents innovative planning, design, andrnconstruction for underground space use and construction whilst using conventional constructionrntechniques and offering unique insight, cost effectiveness, and safety considerations to the designbuildrnprocess for underground works in the USA.
