摘要

This paper studies the frictional behavior of contact systems in incipient sliding. An asperity-based elastic-plastic contact model of nominally flat rough surfaces is used in the study. The asperity interfacial shear strength is described by two parameters. One is the shear-strength-pressure proportionality constant, and the other the limiting value of the shear strength. The results suggest that the Amonton's law of friction is fairly valid for contact systems of low plasticity index and high limiting interfacial shear strength such as ψ < 1.0 and τ_m > 0.8 . It is also fairly valid for high plasticity index and low limiting shear strength such as ψ > 2.0 and τ_m < 0.4 .
