THE EVALUATION OF PAVEMENT REPAIR POLICY BASED ON ENORMOUS DATA OF ROAD SURFACE CONDITIONS

The pavement repair policy is planned and implemented based on the knowledge ofpavement engineering, and improved constantly by reflecting the experience and knowhowthat have been accumulated by field engineers for many years. However thesecannot be evaluated scientifically, it is also difficult to scientifically discuss theappropriateness of pavement repair policies. In recent year, more effective andeconomical pavement repair policies are demanded, and scientific evaluation is necessary.In this study, the authors estimate more reliable deterioration curve and expected lifetimeof road surface statistically, by using more than 200,000 inspection data. Furthermore, theauthors calculate the life cycle cost (LCC) for the pavement repair policy, and investigatethe optimal repair policy by evaluating the risk and the LCC.In addition, the authors discuss (1) the evaluation indices for managing the road surfacefor which drainage pavement is increasingly used, (2) the optimal repair strategy, and (5)the method to determine the order of repair, by simulating the process of the deteriorationand repair, targeting the roads managed by the expressway management company ofJapan.
