MOTORCYCLISTS: UNPROTECTED VULNERABLE ROAD USERS IN MEXICO

摘要

In the last decade, the vehicle fleet of motorcycles in Mexico has reported a rapid increase,going from about 300 thousand in 2000 to be 1.8 million in 2013. This increase, coupledwith the lack of proper infrastructure and the lack of risk education, has resulted in anincrease of the number of traffic accidents where motorcyclists are involved and thereforethe number of casualties has increased, becoming a major health problem, reporting overone thousand deaths in 2013.This article shows the current situation of transport by motorcycle in the country and triesto make aware of the importance of developing the infrastructure to be able to providemore safety to these users, thus achieving a reduced the number in the casualtiesrecorded in the traffic accidents involving these users.
