A STUDY ON THE APPROPRIATE INSTALLATION LOCATION OF SPEEDING ENFORCEMENT WARNING SIGN

It is required by guidelines on Korean highways to install speeding enforcement warningsigns in two places ahead of the location where the speeding enforcement equipment isinstalled. In a road section where the maximum speed is restricted to 100km/h, the firstwarning sign should be installed 2,000m ahead of the location where the speedingenforcement equipment is installed, while the second warning sign should be installed450m ahead. This failed to consider the duration of the driver’s memory. According to theon-site examination, the memory of the drivers of speeding enforcement faded out in thesection between the first warning sign and the second warning sign, and they speeded upagain after the first warning sign. In order to increase the speeding enforcement effectconsidering the behavior of the drivers, it is necessary to install an additional speedingenforcement warning sign 1,200m ahead of the location where the speeding enforcementequipment is installed.
