A new semi-active logic control technique is proposed to improve the damping performance of MR dampers to mitigate a whipping effect for tower buildings with podium structure under the earthquake excitation. Theoretical analysis is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the yet realization simplicity of the proposed control strategy. The simulation of the proposed methodology to a 12-storey tower building with a 3-storey podium structure subjected to earthquake excitation has shown that the logic controller has an improved performance with faster transient response to the earthquake excitation so that mitigate the seismic whipping effect on the tower building and reduce the seismic response of both the tower building and podium structure.
