In the last decade a great deal of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) packages were introduced on the market. With a respect to the increased power of the computer technology, and to the simultaneously decreased price, the GIS technology was accepted by many utilities as a tool for improvement into the distribution system daily work-process. GISs are complex computer packages designed to efficiently capture, store, retrieve, update, manipulate, analyze, and present every kind of geographically referenced data. By its nature, the power system exists in distributed environment. Therefore the electric power information system has to provide sophisticated methodologies to fulfill these requirements for distribution and replication of data. We present our experience with the replicated and distributed data base environment, particularly aiming the needs of power distribution system. During this phase, we have focused our research on concepts and basis of Distributed Database System and replication of data. The test environment in which distribution and replication of simple data, GIS data and Multimedia data is created.
