One of the main methods of manufacturing of castings of aluminum alloys is method of chill mold casting. Chill mold casting holds the most considerable position in the field of manufacturing of large dimension critical castings. The main technological instrument of the method of casting production is chill mold - a metal mold, made, as a rule, of cast iron (about 70% of all chill molds), different grades of steel (about 25% of chill molds) and other metal materials (5% of chill molds). Among the main problems the following should be emphasized: 1. quality of castings and stability; 2. working capacity and life of a chill mold.
