The new Center for Biohealth for the University of NorthrnTexas Health Science Center was designed withrnmechanical systems intended to provide maximum userrnsafety to its occupants, provide a high-level of reliablernperformance to protect the integrity of the researchrnactivities performed, and to attain the maximum amountrnof energy efficiency possible without sacrificing safety orrnperformance.rnThe building systems were designed to conform to designrnguidelines published by the National Institute of Health.rnTo ensure occupant safety, the laboratory modules arernoperated under negative pressure, with tracking control tornmaintain prescribed airflow offsets.rnThe Center for Biohealth was also designed to providernoptimum environmental conditions and systemrnredundancy, while limiting the noise and vibrationrngenerated by the mechanical systems. Key mechanicalrnsystems including laboratory exhaust, chillers and outsidernair treatment were targeted for energy efficiency, as well.
