Investment Casting, once started from bronze arts and craft in ancient times, nowadays is an outstanding industrial process technology. Titanium alloys are widely used in various applications because of their light weight and their relatively high mechanical strength. Besides they have some other advantageous properties like corrosion resistance and, just to mention it, non-interference with biological tissue. High temperature alloys like "834" or even more γ - titanium aluminides are or will be used in several places in engines of different types. It is a reasonable production method either for complex shaped structural titanium parts ( thus saving costs for milling operations ) or for materials with a poor machinability as in the case of γ - TiAl. So the use of titanium alloys for structural investment cast parts for aircrafts offers benefits as well in manufacturing as in operating.
