VERIFICATION OF TRAFFIC INFORMATIONGENERATED FROM PROBE DATA

Probe car systems have begun attracting attention in recent years. In these systems variouskinds of traffic information, such as vehicle location and speed, are measured by movingvehicles act as mobile sensors for the purpose of providing drivers with a wide range ofdetailed, accurate traffic information. With the cooperation of the Kanagawa-prefecture policedepartment headquarters, using probe data collected in a joint experiment in 2001 with JSK(now JARI), we confirmed that it is possible to generate traffic information in which the dataon travel time could be as accurate as that obtained from the AVI system and that thecongestion information is as accurate as the corresponding AMIS information. Moreover, wesuccessfully demonstrated the feasibility of generating the data on right-turn waiting time.
