Real-time traffic information is a popular element for car navigation system and telematics service, many map website and PND are also trying to provide real-time traffic information to user. The main form of real-time traffic information is Jam Level. Different jam levels are usually shown in different colors in various terminals. But the jam level is not an accurate way to show the traffic state. Different user may have different feeling about the same congestion status shown to them. A new traffic information representing way was introduced in this paper. The traffic images of roads or intersections are exchanged in real-time between the terminals through internet. By accessing to the visual information of the traffic, every user can make a decision based on his understanding about the actual traffic, not on the jam level that is translated from average speed by the center side. In this paper, a prototype of traffic image network was presented and the applications were demonstrated based on the prototype.
