In the study, 11 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) during catheterization are recruited to assess thecoupling between the arterial system and left ventricle. The coupling degree is presented by the ratio of the left ventricularmaximum elastance (Ev) and the arterial effective elastance (Ea). It was found that the Ev/Ea ratio is 0.66 ± 0.33 fornormal heart rate, 1.02 ±0.73 for increased HR by 10 or 15 beats, 0.61 ± 0.22 for increased HR by 20 or 30 beats, 0.70 ±0.35 for increased HR by 30 or 45 beats per minute. Thus, the better coupling may occur at an increased HR by 10 or 15beats per minute.
