Traditionally, monobore completion techniques have beenrnable to provide operators with a high degree of flexibility forrnmaintenance needs since the tubing imposes no restriction tornany tool that may be deployed in the liner as sometimesrnhappens when completions have tapered production strings.rnUnfortunately, the traditional monobore completionrnadvantages may not be realized until later in the life of thernwell. While maintenance is always important, the generalrnvolatility of oil prices has forced the industry to targetrnoperational strategies that can also offer quicker returns onrninvestment. Since the completion system discussed in thisrnpaper employs large-diameter production tubing, it providesrnthe maintenance benefits of a monobore system but withrnadded advantages that a large flow area can provide. Thernincreased flow area 1) allows the number of wells to produce arngiven reservoir to be reduced and 2) enables production ratesrnto be increased, which in turn, reduces long-term operatingrnexpense since the reservoir can be depleted in a shorter periodrnof time.rnThe specific benefits of the large-bore monoborerncompletion are as follows:rn? No restrictions are imposed on productionrn? Production rates are maximizedrn? Gas turbulence areas are eliminatedrn? No restrictions on any service/intervention toolsrn? Tubing retrieval to the liner top is allowedrn? Full access to the liner for squeezing or mechanicalrnisolation of the perforations is allowedrn? Ancillary equipment requirements are minimized.
