DYNAMIC PRICING - LESSONS LEARNED DURING PILOT TEST OF CRITICAL PEAK PRICING IN CALIFORNIA

This paper introduces the concepts of dynamic and critical peak pricing, discusses how these concepts were used to develop a critical peak pricing experiment in California, summarizes the lessons learned to date in the process of developing the new rates, recruiting the customers and installing interval meters to record consumption, and describes why the results of this pilot are likely to be critical in determining the future direction of rate policy and supply planning in the United States.
