MODIFICATION OF FILM PROPERTIES BY CHOICE OF SURFACTANT

Surfactants play a crucial role in the process of emulsion polymerization. However, these same surfactants can adversely affect the performance of the resulting latex in applications such as coatings as a result of their surface activity. We have found that by careful choice of surfactant used in the emulsion polymerization, we can impact the properties of the final coating. We present data herein demonstrating the behavior of different surfactants in various performances tests.
