Summary form only given. 3-methyl-4-methoxy-4'-nitrostilbenen(MMONS) exhibits one of the largest power second harmonic signals andnthus has a great potential in frequency doubling and parametricnconversion. The crystal. possesses highly polar structure which leads tonthe abnormal growth behavior in the polar c-direction. The singlencrystals of a size 40×35×30 mm3 and of annexcellent quality could be grown from methyl ethyl ketone solution byncontrolled solvent evaporation. Refractive indices were measured bynusing Brewster angle method. Phase matching angles for the secondnharmonic generation were determined from the refractive index data andnit was found that the type I and type II phase matchings are possible
