Tunu is a giant gas and condensate field located at the eastern limit of the Mahakam delta of Kalimantan, Indonesia (Figure 1). It has an N-S trending overlaid shape, 75 km long by 15 km wide with a surface area of approximately 1000 km~2.rnThe first well drilled on TUNU in 1971, MK-1, was located in the north and resulted in a dry well. The following three wells Tanjung Bjor-1, 2 and 3 were drilled during 1973-1974, These wells failed to discover the field as they stopped above the main pay zone (3000 - 3500 m) and were too far east. It was only in 1982 that the TUNU Main Zone was drilled on well TN-2, down to the over pressured pay interval (4000 m). During 1983-1987 periods, an aggressive delineation program of 24 wells was carried out, which allowed Total E & P Indonesie to start production in a pilot area in August 1990. The delineation of the western side of the field started in 1994, and this proved to be very successful. At the time of publishing, about 355 wells have been drilled and around 152 more wells are already planned (next 3 years).
