Performance of Rimnio bridge embankment during the 1995 Kozani-Grevena earthquake

The paper presents an evaluation of the performance of the Rimnio bridge embankment during the 1995 Kozani-Grevena earthquake. The embankment extensively cracked, settled and moved horizontally 0.8 to 2m due to the liquefaction of its foundation. Results of the seismic response analysis of the embankment and the back-analysis of its permanent displacement are presented. This case history yields valuable information about the response of embankments, subjected to near-source ground motion.
