Geotechnical engineering for transportation infrastructure in Singapore. Part A: Road and expressway networks

Despite rapid growth in economy and vehicle population since Singapore's independence in 1965, people and goods move about safely and efficiently over the island. They are well served by a network of roads, rated as one of world's best. Over the past three decades, in tandem with road and expressway developments and other physical infrastructural developments, much progress has been made in theories, work methods, design processes, and applications of new technology in geotechnical engineering practices in Singapore. This paper describes the geotechnical engineering contributions for the road and expressway development projects in Singapore and into the next millennium.
