Kim Hajek presented Texas Department of Transportation's (DOT's) perspective of emerging data issues and the valuation of data, responding to the eight questions as follows. What is the biggest data issue you will be facing in the next 18 months? 1. Data access (mainframe vs. PC); 2. Data needs for GIS; 3. Data needs for statewide plans; 4. Data needs for programming and scheduling; 5. Data needs for off-system road network (Texas has 220,000 miles of off-system roads); 6. Need statewide model that incorporates roadways, water, rail and air passenger and freight due to impact of NAFTA; 7. Need different data collection capabilities to meet Traffic Monitoring Guide (TMG) guidelines; and 8. Need to eliminate the maintenance of multiple versions of the same file(s) for different reporting purposes.
