Travel Survey Methods

The 2001 National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) was challenged to attain a response rate that met the requirements of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), a level mat would be more difficult to reach with the next NHTS. The purpose of mis workshop was to provide ideas to support planners of the coming NHTS in accomplishing two primary goals: reducing nonresponse and constructing statistical compensations for the effects of nonresponse. Among the ways to accomplish these goals are to identify current trends in the survey industry and to become knowledgeable about new technologies and survey procedures that hold promise in improving the practices that were used for the 2001 NHTS survey.
