Atomistic formation process of Si/Si tunnel junctions and Si/Au/Si quantum dots by mechanical contact

Understanding of the atomistic structures and formation processes of nanometer scale points contacts, such as tunnel junctions and quantum dots, is fundamentally important for the progress in advanced electric device technology. We observed in situ the formation processes by a high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM).
