Besides the reliable prediction of mechanical stress―strain in a steady state rolling tyre, the reliable prediction of tyre rolling resistance is also extremely important because of fuel efficiency requirements and environmental considerations. This paper describes the tyre rolling resistance prediction methodology at the design stage with the help of FEA. For the present work, the predictive equation developed by Pillai & Fielding-Russell for rolling resistance prediction is used. This model relates the rolling resistance to tyre load (L), whole tyre hysteresis ratio (h), loaded radius (r) and tyre deflection (d). In this paper an attempt has been made to calculate all these input parameters by simulating a Steady State Rolling tyre using FEA and subsequently rolling resistance. Yeoh material model is used to define the hyperelastic properties of rubber. Viscoelastic material properties are also defined by using Prony series constants.
